concept:Photographers, artists and amateurs were invited to participate with their personal photographic view of 24 hours in Europe.The leading questions and essentials of the call for entries were: How do we live in Europe? What defines our social and cultural dimensions? Which distinctive characteristics and peculiarities define our daily routine? The submitted series of photos should follow the course of one day: 24 pictures, one for every hour of the day, portrays of a place and its inhabitants. The application term for the competition "24 hours at home in Europe" started during the meeting of "Trans Europe Halles" (TEH) - network of independent European culture centers - in September 2006 at Kulturzentrum Schlachthof. exhibition:The results of the European photo competition "24 hours at home in Europe are displayed in an exhibition at the Town Hall of Bremen from 23rd of February to 7th of March 2007.38 photographers - amateurs and professionals - from 15 European countries present their personal views on everyday life in Europe in sequences of 24 photos. The exhibition offers humorous, provoking and irritating views. Photographic expeditions during night and day in cities like Dublin, Maribor or Trelleborg, insights into flats in Belgrad, Treviso and Amsterdam are also shown as portraits of very different people and places. The photo series are giving a review of European variety and similarities. The visitors are enabled to go on a virtual sightseeing tour looking at photos, which show regional peculiarities and mentalities but also similarities of motifs. The short documentary "Testcase: At home in Europe produced by the Medienwerkstatt Schlachthof is to be seen too. The subject of this film is the search for a future European identity and culture. In the future the exhibition will be offered to other centers of the network "Trans Europe Halles" as well. |
